Digital ecosystem for logistics operations

Europe

A leading European freight forwarder set out to digitise its logistics operations. Starting with a driver app for communication and tour execution, the solution expanded to include two additional web applications: a dispatcher portal for planning and monitoring tours, and a tool for allocating customer orders to the correct locations. Together, these applications form part of a wider ecosystem that increases the efficiency and transparency of daily logistics operations.

The Challenge

The logistics industry is characterized by complex processes, increasing customer demands, and high cost pressure.

The client was in the midst of a major digital transformation, which included replacing its core logistics system. This created a highly dynamic environment characterised by evolving requirements, limited resources and the necessity of aligning new solutions with an IT landscape that was still in a state of flux. Some processes were manual, and expectations shifted rapidly as the transformation progressed. DevelopX’s challenge was to deliver additional digital applications that would address immediate operational needs and integrate seamlessly with the client’s new core system, ensuring long-term scalability while maintaining delivery speed in such a fast-changing setting.

Our Solution

DevelopX delivered a suite of three interconnected applications addressing the needs of different logistics roles: a driver app, a dispatcher portal and an order-to-location tool. The solutions were developed in close cooperation with the client, following an iterative, user-centered approach.

1

Scalable
architecture

A flexible system architecture was built that enables future extensions and ensures seamless integration with evolving core systems.

2

Digital
cockpit

A web-based portal has been developed that enables dispatchers to efficiently plan, direct and monitor tours, with real-time updates synchronised to the drivers’ app.

3

Connected
tools

Delivered an independent application that automates the allocation of customer orders to the right depots, and enhanced the driver app to provide clear workflows, communication features, and document handling on the road.

4

Modernized
interface

Intuitive, user-friendly interfaces have been implemented to simplify daily operations, combined with clean, efficient code. This ensures maintenance is straightforward, scalability is fast and costs are kept to a minimum in the long term.
